BEATS:
The Elands is divided into 9 beats ranging in length from approximately
700 metres to about 1.3 kilometres, numbered from west to east.
BEAT No. 1:
Starts at the bridge at the town entrance connecting Boven to the N4 highway
and runs about 700 metres down to the low water bridge connecting the
Veldskool to ZASM Avenue via President Street. This stretch has a good
balance of some fast runs, a reach and two long pools.
BEAT No. 2:
Begins at the low water bridge and runs down to just below the abattoir
next to Riverside Avenue. This beat includes the weir that supplies the
Veldskool and Boven dams with water. It contains a relatively large, deep
pool just below the pedestrian bridge.
BEAT No. 3:
Runs from the abattoir down to "Ninety Degree Pool". This pool
is situated roughly below the last house next to the road that leads to
Bloukrans Island. It includes two large slowish pools formed by gabini
weirs.
BEAT No. 4:
Progresses from "Ninety Degree Pool" to roughly below the Boven
run off from the N4. The stream runs directly west on this beat, the only
place where it does so. This beat might be useful to the nymph or dry
fly fishermen who like to fish upstream during the late afternoon. It
has a few good pools and some very fast water.
BEAT No. 5:
Runs from the easily recognisable "Bloukrans" down to the new
railway bridge. It has one or two good pools and also some productive
reaches.
BEAT No. 6: ( Not stocked )
Starts from the railway bridge down to below the last house in Elandspark.
At about 1,3 kilometres it is the longest beat on the WBTA waters. It
is well balanced containing pools, rapids, dropovers, etc.
BEAT No. 7, 8, 9: ( Not stocked )
Starts from the ZASM falls up to 5 Arches bridge.
